Blood Lions® has brought the horrors of predator breeding, canned hunting and various other exploitative activities involving lions and other species to the world's attention in a way that has not been achieved before.
While so many others have been involved in different ways over the last decade and more, and their contributions have been and will continue to be meaningful and significant, the film's powerful visual narrative, as well as the global campaign, have provided a compelling call to action to have these practices stopped.
Currently, over 8 000 predators, mainly lion and cheetah, are being held in captivity in South Africa to be used in canned hunting as well as exploitative tourism activities such as cub petting, 'walking with lion' attractions and volunteer tourism. You are contributing to the never-ending cycle of cruelty and abuse by interacting with' wild' animals in captivity. It is important to note that these same animals you interact with may well have been bred under intensive agricultural conditions and, if they are not shot in a hunt, could end up as part of the lion bone trade. Watch this short clip to learn more about why we should not be petting cubs and walking with lions.
With support from the wider conservation community, the global tourism industry, and millions of concerned citizens, the Blood Lions Campaign is now owned by everyone that supports an end to the breeding, canned hunting and commercial exploitation of wild animal species.
The Blood Lions 'Born to Live Wild' Tourism Campaign and Pledge has been signed by more than 210 tourism operators from around the world. By signing the Born to Live Wild pledge, these tourism operators commit to not knowingly support any operator that contributes to the cycle of captive breeding, canned hunting and commercial exploitation of wild animal species. This includes all petting and 'walking with lion' tourist attractions.
This pledge has become a central part of what we are all trying to achieve. This page recognizes those safari and tourism operators that have committed to actively becoming involved in being part of the solution. The operators whose logos are displayed below have signed the Born to Live Wild pledge and commit to securing the survival of Africa's predators in the wild by supporting and promoting Africa as an authentic, wild and ethical tourism destination.
For those not yet committed, we ask that you join the campaign by signing the Born to Live Wild pledge. Blood Lions and those that have already signed up ask that you participate in good faith. The industry will be its own watchdog.
Companies' sign' the pledge by agreeing to the terms within the pledge and adding their logos to this page. Email your company logo to info@bloodlions.org for more information.
We invite all tourism operators to join us in committing to this pledge. Visit https://bloodlions.org/born-to-live-wild/ to learn more.
